Reports in Belgian press suggest the WorldTour team are in talks with the 'English wonder boy'

Pidcock tweeted that he was 'speechless' after topping the podium at the Junior Cyclocross World Championships

Away on a training camp ahead of the road season, Tom Pidcock was able to take some time out to speak to Cyclist about his future. Pidcock is a rider in demand, especially in light of reports in the Belgian press that WorldTour team Trek-Segafredo are looking at signing the 17-year-old on a joint basis with CX team Telenet-Fidea Lions.

It should come as no surprise that teams are jostling to gain the British rider's signature. Pidcock is the current National, European and World Junior Cyclocross Champion and has been called the 'English wonder boy' and 'mini-Sagan' thanks to his dominant performances in cyclocross and strong rides on the road.

'I think everyone knows now that I'm talking to [cyclo]cross teams,' Pidcock told Cyclist.

'I don't see the harm in people knowing that. People can guess which teams, it won't be hard.'

A story carried by Het Laastse Nieuws in Belgium talked of former-Cyclocross champion Sven Nys's 'big plans for the 17-year-old wonder boy.'

The key part of HLN's report revolved around the attendance of Luca Guercilena, Trek-Segafredo's team manager, in the discussions between Pidcock and Nys at the Middelkerke round of the Cyclocross Superprestige race series.

When asked about the link-up between Telenet-Fidea Lions - for cyclocross, and Trek-Segafredo - to realise his road ambitions, Pidcock enigmatically hinted at the way his young career could be heading.

'There will be a route to progress to Trek-Segafredo through the Trek bike brand,' he said.

Telenet-Fidea Lions ride Trek bikes.

Pidcock will be the subject of a Q&A about the direction of his career in Cyclist magazine later in the Spring.
