This is just so easy, there are almost no excuses not to do it properly.
- Clean the chain thoroughly. Adding lube to a dirty chain will just create a sticky mess, so use degreaser to loosen the grime, then wash with hot, soapy water and leave to dry.
- Drop the chain onto a small sprocket. This will force the chain through tight corners as it passes through the rear derailleur’s jockey wheels, forcing lube into the chain links.
- Apply lube to the top of the lower part of the chain and let gravity do its work. Backpedal the chain slowly while squeezing a drop of lube onto each link in turn.
- Once all links are covered, turn the pedals for a few rotations to get the lube thoroughly into all parts. Use a rag to remove any excess oil in order to prevent it attracting more dirt.
Now - get to it!
