The Yorkshire Dales beats Richmond Park and Cambridge as destination with most cycling related posts

The Yorkshire Dales have been named the most popular cycling spot of 2017 on Instagram, beating Richmond Park and Cambridge.

Last year, users of the Instagram app uploaded 4,836 posts relating to cycling in the Dales of Yorkshire, 2,000 more than Richmond Park and 3,500 more than Cambridge.

Hotel chain Premier Inn compiled the data revealing the top 10 most photographed cycling spots in which the beautiful Yorkshire countryside came out on top.

This should come as no surprise considering the booming popularity of the sport in the Northern county. Ever since Yorkshire hosted the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014, the Dales and Moors have become pilgrimages for cyclists around the UK.

The county has also embraced its own men's and women's stage race, the Tour de Yorkshire, and will host the 2019 UCI World Championships.

A deeper look into the top 10 reveals little in the way of surprises with popular cycling destinations such as the Brecon Beacons, then Peak District and Box Hill all making the list.
