In Chris Froome's first race since his salbutamol case was made public, live data team Velon are broadcasting the rider's data, including his power output, from Stage 1 of the Ruta del Sol.
Viewers can track the rider's speed, heart rate, cadence and most importantly power as Froome negotiates Stage 1 from Mijas to Granada – showing an impressive power threshold even in the race's earliest kilometres.
The data is being broadcasted live on the Velon website and also includes values from Froome's rivals, such as Sep Vanmarcke (EF-Drapac) and former teammate Mikel Landa (Movistar).
A tough opening 8km forced Froome into producing some impressive numbers. Over the first 20 minutes of racing, the four-time Tour de France champion averaged 388 watts, and maxed out at 460 watts.
The Team Sky leader then went on to average 259 watts over the first hour of racing.
What makes these figures more interesting is that Team Sky have usually been guarded when it comes to the public knowledge of its riders' power data.
A quick look at apps such as Strava shows that Team Sky riders such as Froome usually tend to hide their power data. Many suggest this is done to avoid rival teams having detailed knowledge of the given rider's capabilities.
However, with current question marks looming over Froome's ongoing battle to overturn his adverse finding for salbutamol and Team Sky's part ownership of Velon - with nine other WorldTour teams - this could be seen as a bid to show transparency in this challenging period.
