More teams agree to partner with Velon bringing the viewer closer to the racing

Velon has partnered with seven new teams for the 2018 season helping bring the viewer closer to the action with more riders than ever.

The content sharing platform has joined forces with Dimension Data, Bardiani-CSF, Caja-Rural, Gazprom-Rusvelo, Israel Cycling Academy, Nippo-Vini Fantini and Cofidis to share data from these teams' riders live to the viewer.

This means that we will be treated to the likes of Mark Cavendish and Nacer Bouhanni's stats as they ride the biggest races in the world.

Velon currently broadcasts data such as power and speed live to its website with users able to track how hard the pros are going while watching them on television. It also uses GoPro footage to immerse viewers into the peloton after the race.

This was impressively done at last month's Abu Dhabi Tour in which we were treated to a 360° video of Antwan Tolhoek (LottoNL-Jumbo) racing in the peloton.

Originally formed by 10 WorldTour teams, Velon has been present at some of the biggest races of the season so far and will continue to be so.

Velon data was used at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Strade Bianche and will also be used at the Giro d'Italia, Tour of Flanders and this Saturday's Milan-San Remo.

Chief executive of Velon Graham Bartlett spoke of his joy at the growth of Velon with the partnership of these new teams.

'This represents a major landmark for Velon and we’re delighted to welcome all seven teams on board. The thinking behind Velon is all about partnerships, we believe in working for each other and sharing,' said Bartlett.

'It's the way we see the future growth in cycling’s popularity and how we achieve deeper fan engagement for the sport – something all of the teams work so hard for.'

Doug Ryder, Dimension Data team director, added to Bartlett's statement iterating how Velon helps spread the message of the African WorldTour team.

'Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka is a team that tells stories and changes people’s lives across the African continent by engaging with our fans, followers and the general cycling audience.

'Partnering with Velon gives us another platform to do just that.'
