It's pretty common knowledge that Tom Pidcock (Team Wiggins) is one of the best bike handlers in the world. Despite being only 18-years-old, the multi-discipline World Champion has done stuff on two wheels most could only dream of.
So it comes as no surprise that when brought down to Wembley to promote the latest leg of the Ovo Energy Tour Series, the Yorkshireman attempted to recreate the iconic photograph of Dutch track cyclist Piet van Kempen during the London Six held in Wembley way back in 1936.
Joined by crit racing talent Alec Briggs, Pidcock recreated the iconic image of van Kempen who took an alternative break while racing the first ever Wembley London Six Day 82 years ago.
While Pidcock and Briggs make this one-legged trick seem relatively easy they pale in comparison to the effortlessly cool van Kempen who managed this stunt dressed in woollen slacks and a stylish long-sleeved polo shirt.
Pidcock and Briggs were brought together alongside Dame Sarah Storey to launch the second consecutive Wembley Park Tour Series event which will take place on Tuesday 29th May.
The 2018 course will tackle a 1.9km route close to Wembley Arena with the finish line in the shadow of England's home of football, Wembley Stadium.
With the event taking place during school half term, organisers hope that this free-to-attend race will attract plenty of families from the local area to come along and experience live, action-packed bike racing.
At the launch, Pidcock spoke of his excitement at racing the Tour Series and the challenge of reenacting van Kempen.
'I had great fun recreating the 1936 photograph along with Alec Briggs. It’s quite a tricky move but I always appreciate a challenge,' said Pidcock.
'I know Team Wiggins are excited about racing in the OVO Energy Tour Series this year and the Wembley Park circuit looks tough and technically challenging; a must-watch round of the series I’m sure.'
