Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) has abandoned Paris-Roubaix after a crashing on the first section of cobbles.
The Welshman was among a large group of riders to hit the floor in the Troisvilles to Inchy sector. Currently, it is unknown whether the rider sustained injuries or abandoned as a precautionary measure.
This will come as a huge disappointment for both the rider and the team. Despite being absent throughout the rest of the Spring Classics, the former top 10 finisher made a point of racing the 'Queen of the Classics'.
Racing Roubaix was also going to play part of Thomas' build-up for this year's Tour de France which sees Stage 9 visit the cobbles on show today.
A mud-sodden first section cobbles caused issues for the main group of riders with many crashing. Among those to crash were Tom Van Asbroeck (EF-Drapac) and Magnus Cort Nielson (Astana) with the latter also abandoning the race.
Defending Champion Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing) also found himself effected by the spill, being split from the lead group of Quick-Step Floors and Bora-Hansgrohe riders. Fortunately, he was able to chase back on.
