The emotion of a rider crossing the line in first place can tell you a lot about their character. Often it's a shout of relief like Peter Sagan at Paris-Roubaix this year or Simon Yates atop Gran Sasso last weekend.
Sometimes riders try and play it cool. Think Alberto Contador shooting his imaginary pistol throughout his career.
Yet some are just so happy to get the win they lose all sense of surroundings and just let the emotions flow, just like Latvian Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo) after winning Stage 3 of the Tour of California.
With 5km remaining, Skujins alongside breakaway companion Sean Bennett (Hagens Berman Axeon) had a slender lead of five seconds and look destined to be caught by a peloton containing Sagan and Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott).
However the duo managed to hold off the chasers with Skujins eventually riding Bennett off his wheel. As he crossed the line, Skujins couldn't help but release his delight at the stage win, having a little dance and punching the air.
The jubilation probably stems from the fact that the Latvian's last attendance at the race was remembered after a heavy crash on Stage 2.
Hitting the deck hard, Skujins tried to remount but stumbled across the road. He momentarily rode on before being forced to abandon the stage.
Skujins sustained severe concussion from the crash and this incident sparked much of the debate surrounding head injuries currently in professional cycling.
Skujins's victory last night was his third at the Tour of California. Team Sky's Egan Bernal currently leads the race on General Classification.
