Olympic champion and Paris-Roubaix winner Greg Van Avermaet will be the envy of the professional peloton after he revealed his gold Giant TCR SL Advanced for 2019.
The Belgian took the first major victory of his now-decorated career at the 2016 Rio Olympics with gold in the road race beating Dane Jakub Fuglsang in a sprint on the shores of the Brazilian city.
Following the tradition of previous champions Samuel Sanchez and Alexandre Vinokourov, Van Avermaet opted to go for gold accents to remind the peloton of his success including the BMC bike he rode in his time at BMC Racing.
With BMC stepping away from the WorldTour fold over Winter, CCC stepped up from the ProContinental ranks bringing Taiwanese bike brand Giant with them, who have also dressed Van Avermaet as a modern-day King Midas.
The frame fades from gold to black with particular attention paid to the toptube as reminders to the rider's most notable career victories. Etched into the frame is a map of Brazil, trident to mark his Tirreno-Adriatico victory and cobble to mark his Paris-Roubaix success.
Like the rest of his orange-clad team, the 33-year-old will have the choice of Giant's Propel aero bike, the featherweight TCR and endurance-based Defy.
The team will be riding Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 with matching power meter but surprisingly not in its disc model as the Belgian opts for the traditional rim brake build unlike many of his rivals this season.
Giant also provides the finishing kit of stem and handlebars while also suuplying its own-brand wheels with the hashtag OVERACHIVIEVE stuck to the rims.
To match the bike, Van Avermaet looks to also be racing in a gold Giant helmet and gold Oakley sunglasses with gold cuffs on his sleeves to signify his Olympic exploits.
Van Avermaet will be hoping this provides the Midas touch as he looks to finally win the Tour of Flanders, his home race, in April.
