A superb, customisable all-rounder that rides brilliantly on and off road, and is good value

The MyO customisation system from Orbea is fantastic, allowing you to create a truly unique bike.

So if you don’t like the colour on our test model, don’t worry as it is fully customisable and hours can be spent designing and fretting over what colours, kit and finish to go for.

Best of all, this comes at no extra cost.

We took the base Terra M31 model, and changed just the tyres and the colours. The SRAM 1x system is very popular on adventure/gravel bikes and for good reason.

It provides good range, reliable shifting and the simplicity of a single front chainring, although the use of an 11-36 cassette may not suit everyone, especially those looking to go bikepacking or off-road with big climbs and this is one part that isn’t changeable with the MyO system.

A double chainset version is an option, however.

With the initial first ride being on the road it was a pleasant and surprisingly fast experience, the 40mm Schwalbe G-One all-round tyres are excellent and the reason we picked them.

On the road, it was comfortable, swift and easy to manoeuvre. Given the impressive road speed we were not expecting big things off-road but were really surprised by how comfortable and confident it was, especially from the rear with the bridge-less seatstays having a noticeable effect.

The front end was less comfortable, but then it doesn’t have an active front suspension system so this is to be expected.

The wheels are slightly more road focused, with a 17mm internal measurement and not tubeless ready, so if you were looking at doing lots off-road then this is something we would consider switching to improve control and comfort.

The handlebars are also a pure road model with no sweep, which could improve downhill confidence.

The Terra is on the heavy side but offers considerable value for money and overall we were really impressed.

It might not be perfect for everyone, but it ticks a lot of boxes and the custom options will help it stand out.

Verdict

As the first adventure bike from Orbea, we think they have done a fantastic job. It is a superb all-rounder and the MyO custom options allow you to make it truly unique. It rides brilliantly both on and off-road, feels quick and smooth and offers incredible value for money.
